Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?
Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
In our classroom
Our school offers a comprehensive classroom-level High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) program designed to challenge and inspire students. Through differentiated learning experiences, we provide opportunities for advanced thinking, creativity, and problem-solving across all key learning areas. Our teachers tailor lessons to extend students’ strengths and interests, fostering a supportive environment where gifted learners can thrive academically and personally. This approach ensures that every student is engaged, motivated, and encouraged to reach their full potential
Across our school
Across our school, we are committed to supporting High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) through a whole-school approach. Students are carefully identified using a range of assessment tools and teacher observations to ensure their unique learning needs are recognised. Our dedicated HPGE team, made up of experienced teachers, works collaboratively to provide tailored learning opportunities that challenge and extend students’ abilities across all key learning areas. By fostering creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning, we aim to inspire and support gifted learners to achieve their highest potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Across NSW
Across NSW schools, the Department of Education’s High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) program provides a structured and comprehensive approach to identifying and supporting gifted and high potential students. Using the NSW DoE HPGE Toolkit, schools employ a variety of identification methods, including assessments, teacher referrals, and student evidence, to recognise diverse talents and learning needs.
Academic competitions
Our school proudly participates in a variety of academic competitions, including the Premier’s Debating Competition, inter-school debating, and the CWA Public Speaking Competition. We also actively take part in the Forbes Eisteddfod, where students showcase their talents in recitation, public speaking, choir, and dance. These opportunities help our students develop confidence, communication skills, and a passion for the arts and public speaking.
The Premier’s Sporting Challenge
Our school is actively involved in the Premier’s Sporting Challenge through the Forbes Public School Sports Skills Program. Students receive expert coaching and develop their skills across a range of sports including golf, tennis, and football. This program promotes fitness, teamwork, and a lifelong love of sport, helping our students build confidence and achieve their personal best.
Music ensembles
Our school is proud to be involved with Musica Viva, enriching our students' musical experiences. Our talented choir regularly performs at local events, sharing their passion and skills with the community. They also thoroughly enjoy participating in the Compass Music Festival, where they have the opportunity to collaborate, learn, and celebrate music with other schools
